Dwight David Eisenhower was born in Texas and grew up in Kansas.
He went to West Point and became an officer in the US Army.
During World War I, he trained tank crews in Pennsylvania.
After the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, he went to the Pacific to lead the defenses.
Later, he was selected to lead the Allied forces in the European theatre against Adolph Hitler.
During World War II, he was promoted to the rank of General and became Supreme Leader of the Allies.
He returned from World War II as a popular hero.
This helped him win the election to President of the United States.
Dwight Eisenhower was the 34th President from 1953 to 1961.
After his presidency, he retired to a small farm in Pennsylvania.
He was in Washington, DC, when he died at 78 years of age.
