Louis Armstrong was born in New Orleans. He grew up on the streets of New Orleans.

Louis first got a cornet and learned to play it.

Louis played creole music and jass, learning from the many musicians in New Orleans.

Louis joined the various street bands that strolled through New Orleans playing music.

Louis was invited to Chicago to play in bigger bands that made recordings.

Louis began to play the trumpet and other horns. He became better and better.

Louis added singing and humor to his "act" and his voice became as popular as his music.

Louis lived to be seventy years old, and was recognized for his great contributions to American music.

Even in his last years, Louis created hit recordings.

"What a Wonderful World" was the most memorable of his final hits. The song expresses Louis' great love of life.
